If you ask the average person if they’re a cat person or a dog person, many will say the latter. There is a great amount of misunderstanding of cats, but in reality, our feline friends – who have been kept as pets for thousands of years – are truly amazing to spend time with.

Cats have a significant place in history. In ancient Egypt, they were associated with the goddess Bastet. In medieval Europe, cats were invaluable in keeping down the road and population in crops.

Famous English medieval author Geoffrey Chaucer mentioned a cat door of a home in London in the Canterbury Tales, which were written in the 1380s, during the reign of Richard II.

During the discovery and settlement of the new world, cats boarded ships from European ports and travel to the United States, Canada, and other nations. it is believed that several cats came with Christopher Columbus as well as the settlers at Jamestown, who came from England aboard the Mayflower.

While it is true that the house cats of today are descended from their wild counterparts, they gradually domesticated themselves over a long period.
